Areas of Practice

Millberg, Gordon & Stewart was originally founded as a civil litigation firm and continues to engage in an extensive practice in that arena. We have been privileged to represent a cross-section of people and businesses, and the firm represents both plaintiffs and defendants. The heart of the firm's practice is the defense of companies, large and small, in personal injury and product liability lawsuits. Our lawyers have extensive experience in handling major lawsuits involving death or catastrophic injury in which the plaintiffs seek tremendous compensatory and punitive damages. Over the years, we have honed our skills against some of the toughest plaintiffs' lawyers in the country.

Over a decade ago, Mr. Millberg and Mr. Gordon departed a large firm in Raleigh in order to establish their own practice. They sought to establish a small firm based on commitment to client relationships and a respect for the legal profession. Since then, the firm has built a solid reputation for providing high caliber legal advice and representation while remaining small enough to ensure personalized service for our clients.

Since its opening, Millberg, Gordon & Stewart has developed a sophisticated client base of various businesses, large and small, including railroads, trucking companies, construction companies, manufacturers and insurance companies. These clients range in size from small local companies to large Fortune 500 companies. We represent these clients in both the state and federal courts of North and South Carolina.

We have defended construction companies in worksite fatalities, railroad companies in crossing accidents and FELA cases, trucking companies in tractor-trailer accidents, as well as manufacturers and distributors of allegedly dangerous products. Many of our clients are target defendants who have become, not by their own choosing, sophisticated litigants. We often work in tandem with in-house counsel and risk management executives in defending these companies.

Over the years, we have handled a variety of matters, including cases which have involved:

» Multiple fatalities
» Severe brain damage
» Amputations
» Toxic Torts (asbestos, solvents, lead paint, etc.)
» Repetitive stress and trauma injuries
» Occupational disability claims
» Class actions
» Complex litigation involving multiple related actions
» Complex business litigation, including minority shareholder actions, restrictive covenant actions, and claims for contractual indemnification
